About the event
For hundreds of years, lei has been an integral part of ceremony, ritual events and honoring in the Hawai'ian Islands. In this 3 hour event, led Pua Le'a Floral owner Julia and hosted by The Mix in Niantic, participants will be introduced to the art of Hawai'i-style lei po'o - floral crowns.
We will begin with an opening circle and community building followed by guidance in approaching plants mindfully, selecting a pattern and learning the wili lei technique and weaving a full lei po'o - all while bonding with other participants in circle together. This unique opportunity is designed to give partipants a feeling for the aloha spirit and will include Hawai'ian words and terms used in lei-making.
We will use fall blooms and foliage to capture the essence of the fall season. Plants are selected to last 2-4 days if spritzed with water and stored in fridge after wear. Lei po'o also dry beautifully if laid flat allowing a continued story of your floral creation!
Bring a family member, a friend or a partner and recieve a $5 discount. Lei are woven by men, women and people who identify as non-binary/non-gender conforming in Hawai'i so all are welcome to this workshop!
