About the event

Bring mom, grandma, an aunt or a cherished motherly presence in your life to this Mother's Day inspired workshop at the art hub Red Barn in Durham.

For over a thousand years, lei-making in Hawai'i has been a symbol of showing love, deep care and honoring to people in your immediate family, community and even cherished animals and plants. When a lei is offered (either neck lei or head lei) it is a powerful yet gentle symbol of the aloha one person has for another.

Join us to learn to weave a Hawai'i-style floral crown called lei po'o - and either gift it to a beloved person or wear it to celebrate and honor yourself.

Certified educator, conservation biologist and owner of Puale'a Floral Julia, will be teaching about the plants, Hawai'ian cultural contect and deep nature connection involved with lei-making in Hawai'i. This is a beginner friendly activity and you will be guided through each step to ensure your success.

Pre-registration is required for this event and will close on May 8th. This is an adult event (ages 13+)

About the Owner

Julia is the owner and lei-maker behind Puale‘a Floral. She was immersed in Hawai'ian culture living on Hawai’i Island for 5 years, where through work in sustainable agriculture and conservation biology and study of the language, she became intimately connected to the plants and stories (mo'olelo) of place. An educator by trade and naturalist by heart, she humbly shares her knowledge of the art of lei po'o and aloha spirit to Connecticut and beyond.
