About the event
For over 800 years, lei-making in Hawai'i has been a symbol of showing love, deep care and honoring to people in your immediate family, community and even cherished animals and plants. When a lei is offered (either neck lei or head lei) it is a powerful yet gentle symbol of the aloha one person has for another.
Join us to learn to weave a Hawai'i-style floral crown called lei po'o - and either gift it to a beloved person or wear it to celebrate and honor yourself!
Certified educator, conservation biologist and owner of Puale'a Floral Julia, lived on Hawai'i Island for five years where she was deeply immersed in the culture & life of rural Hawaiian communities.
She will be teaching about the plants, Hawai'ian cultural context and deep nature connection involved with lei-making in Hawai'i. This is a beginner friendly activity and you will be guided through each step to ensure your success.
Lei po'o last 2-4 days if spritzed with water and stored in the fridge. Guests will receive care instructions and a large ziplock bag for their lei.
*NEVER* throw away a lei when it begins to die. Julia will show you 3 ways to preserve your lei by drying or let it go appropriately.
