About the event

Join us for an evening of flowers, food and fun in an intimate setting at folklore flower co.!

For over 800 years, lei-making in Hawai'i has been a symbol of showing love, deep care and honoring to people in your immediate 'ohana (family), community and sacred places to name just a few. When a lei is offered (either neck lei or head lei) it is a powerful yet gentle symbol of the aloha one person has for another.

In this workshop you will learn the wili-style of Hawai'i-style floral crowns called lei po'o - to either gift to a beloved person or wear to celebrate and honor yourself! Both are acceptable in modern Hawaii. Making lei is a journey you go on to meet and understand the plants better, to drop into a calm, mindful state and to support and uplift other womyn in their journies.

Certified educator, conservation biologist and owner of Puale'a Floral Julia, lived on Hawai'i Island for five years where she was deeply immersed in the culture & life of the rural Hawaiian communities where she worked.  She will be teaching about the plants, cultural context and deep nature connection involved with lei-making in Hawai'i.

*NEVER* throw away a lei when it begins to die. Julia will show you 3 ways to preserve your lei by drying or let it go appropriately.

This is a beginner friendly activity and you will be guided through each step to ensure your success. Lei po'o last 2-4 days if spritzed with water and stored in the fridge. Guests will receive care instructions and a large ziplock bag for their lei.
